Teign Heritage Archives contain a wealth of artefacts, photos and documents that illustrate the rich history of Teignmouth and Shaldon.
Archive Highlights:
- original plans for many Morgan Giles vessels
- an extensive local photographic archive dating back to mid 19th Century
- a range of old maps and prints of the local area
- local family information; some baptism and burial records and trade directories
- local newspaper archives dating back to 1943 and a few earlier editions
- meteorological data from the late 19th Century onwards
- information about the fishing trade with Newfoundland and families
Making an enquiry
The archives are run by a dedicated team of knowledgeable volunteers who have extensive experience in researching local history. The archivists are available throughout the year but not every day. If you wish to make an enquiry in person please contact us to make an appointment.

Please include as much detail about your enquiry as you can. This will allow our archivists to find out how we can help you.
If we find we have information for you, there will be a basic charge of £10 (Friends of Teign Heritage are not charged). For over an hour's work there will be an additional charge of £10.
Copying photos, prints and documents
Please be aware that copies may be made for personal and research use only and that there is a charge applicable if you wish to take photographs of archive material.

All proceeds from archive enquiries are used to fund the conservation of archive materials and the administration of the museum.
